Welcome to The Bookshelf
This is where I recommend and talk a bit about my favorite books!! Expect this to upload very slowly as it takes a while for me to finish a book!
I'm the kind of person who likes practical books. That is, nonfiction. Biographies and topics like music, art, animation, screenwriting, self-help, psychology...
I like it when I feel like I'm learning something valuable; that way, I feel like I'm not wasting my time.
I never really saw the point in reading fiction—at least for me—I prefer to entertain myself in other ways. But recently I realized that you can also learn valuable lessons from fiction, particularly from the classics, so I’m more open to reading that kind of thing, and you might see those kinds of recommendations here as well.
Feel free to recommend books to me! You can leave them in my Guestbook.
1. Atomic Habits by James Clear
This book has changed my life. I mean it.
I’ve suffered from very severe ADHD my whole life—the kind that paralyzed me and prevented me from doing even the easiest things. This book teaches you how to get rid of the habits that make you procrastinate and feel worse about yourself, and it teaches you how to make your desired behaviors easy and automatic. Literally. It teaches you how to stop relying on willpower.
Of course, it hasn’t cured my ADHD. But it’s one of the few things that has helped me, even though it took me a long time to finish it. And in fact, this blog wouldn’t exist if this book hadn’t helped me so much. I started working on it while I was reading it.
Anyone can benefit from this book, and I recommend it to everyone.
If you struggle to read books like me, this is my advice: Keep the book laying around your room (or any other place you're frequently in like your living room) with a highligher. As you read, highlight the phrases you like. It's very important that you don't put the book away until you finish it.
